Holidays at The Haven

New Traditions Bring Holiday Cheer to Haven Families

Holiday traditions create cherished memories in many families.  For the young families at The Haven of Grace, many of those traditions begin while they call The Haven home.  A fun and full holiday season was created this December through visits from community partners, a generous response to The Haven’s Adopt-a-Family program, festive decorations, and a cozy home in our Quad and Shelter.  The joy of the season was especially evident at The Haven during two special events.

A Haven Christmas took place on December 17, 2017.  Attendees included all current residents, Aftercare families, Haven staff, board members, and friends of The Haven.  Burger 809 (owned and operated by former Haven resident Tasha Smith) catered the party with a delicious chili bar and hot chocolate.  Board members provided Christmas treats for dessert.  Christmas carols were led by members of Prince of Peace Church, and Santa’s favorite elf visited excited Haven kids!

The evening also included voting in The Haven’s annual door decorating contest.  Each current shelter resident decorated their room door and guests voted on their favorites.  The creativity was truly impressive!

Christmas PJ Breakfast took place on December 22, 2017.  Current shelter and Quad residents and Haven staff all arrived in their favorite Christmas pajamas for a family-style breakfast of pancakes, eggs and sausage.  Residents had a chance to open gifts and spend time talking about their favorite holiday traditions.

The Haven of Grace is so grateful to everyone in the community who helped make the season bright for Haven families in 2017!
