Tempestt and Noah Graduate!

Tempestt and Noah Graduate

When you are a single mom, every step you take towards your goals is a family affair. So when Tempestt (a current resident of our Quad transitional living apartments) graduated from a Patient Care Tech program this month, she did it with her son Noah in her arms.

Tempestt arrived at The Haven of Grace just a couple of weeks before Noah was born in 2015. As she navigated through her pregnancy and early motherhood, she was grateful for the loving care she received from the doctors, nurses and support staff at the hospitals and clinics she visited. She realized what a gift it was to have compassionate care, and decided that she wanted to be a part of providing that for other young mothers and babies.

Tempestt discussed her desire to work in healthcare with her case management team at The Haven and got to work reaching towards that goal. She was able to move into our Quad transitional living apartments and enrolled in classes. The Haven staff helped her identify a program that would give her the chance to graduate quickly and begin working as a Patient Care Tech, where she can have the flexibility to continue her education as she gains some financial stability.

The Haven’s Program Team was excited to join Tempestt’s family at the graduation ceremony for her Patient Care Tech program in June of 2017. Noah (now almost two years old) was in attendance as well. As Noah watched his mom sitting alongside the other graduates in the front of the room, he decided he needed to join her. He ran to the front and climbed up on his mom’s lap, where he is always welcome. And she kept him in her arms as she received her certificate, which seemed fitting to everyone there.

Tempestt and Noah graduated. Together. And now the future is a little brighter for them both.

Congratulations to Tempestt on her accomplishments! The Haven of Grace provides book stipends and small scholarships to our moms working towards educational goals. To give a financial gift to support education funds for our moms, visit our Giving Page.
